A structured review: broken references, hard-coded values inside formulas, circular logic, key-person risk, and what would happen if the author left.

ShaktiA remote team of Excel and spreadsheet specialists. You work directly with the person building your file, from the first question to the final handover. More about us.
The short version
There is a category of spreadsheet that runs a real part of a business and that everybody is slightly afraid of. It works, mostly. One person understands it. It has grown by accretion for four years. This is the work we do most: making that file reliable, reviewable and transferable without losing what made it useful in the first place.
Scope
Every engagement gets an hours estimate before it starts. If something below is not relevant to you, it comes out of the scope and off the estimate.
A structured review: broken references, hard-coded values inside formulas, circular logic, key-person risk, and what would happen if the author left.
Restructuring so assumptions live in one place, calculations are traceable, and a reviewer can verify the output unaided.
Finding why the number is wrong, and more usefully, why nobody noticed for three months.
An independent read on a model before you rely on it for a decision, a bid or an investment.

Same work, different job titles
These all describe the same engagement. The title matters less than whether the person writes things down — but it is worth knowing which term to search, because the results differ.
Advisory framing: someone who tells you what is wrong and what it would cost to fix, before touching anything.
Broader terms, often used by people who are not yet sure whether they need an audit, a rebuild or just a second opinion.
Used where the stack is mixed — some Excel, some Sheets, some CSV exports nobody owns.
Specific to reviewing a model or workbook for errors and risk, usually before someone external relies on it.
Method
Every external link, every constant embedded in a formula, every manual step in the update procedure.
Not everything needs fixing. We rank findings by what could actually cause a wrong decision.
Sometimes a targeted repair is right. Sometimes the structure is the problem. We tell you which, and why.
Who maintains it, how it updates, and what to check before trusting the output.
| Discovery | 15% of hours | Understanding the decision the file supports, and who edits it. |
|---|---|---|
| Prototype | 20% of hours | A working version on your real data, while changing course is still cheap. |
| Build | 40% of hours | The main work, against definitions agreed in writing first. |
| Testing | 15% of hours | Edge cases, checks that fail loudly, and the numbers reconciled. |
| Handover | 10% of hours | Documentation, update procedure and a recorded walkthrough. |
Questions
What clients ask before commissioning this work.
Ask us something elseA single-workbook audit is usually 4–8 hours at our standard hourly rate, delivered as a prioritised findings list plus a recorded walkthrough. You can act on it yourself or have us do the remediation — there is no obligation to continue.
Often not. Structure and a representative sample are usually enough. Where real data is needed we sign an NDA first and can work from an anonymised copy.
We can substantially harden a workbook — controlled assumptions, protected formulas, failing checks, documented procedure. Whether that satisfies a specific regulatory standard depends on the standard, and anyone promising blanket compliance for a plain Excel file is overselling it.
We tell you. It happens regularly, and it costs us the engagement. It is still the right answer when the honest recommendation is a database, a proper application, or a process change rather than a better spreadsheet.
Often combined with
Most engagements touch more than one of these. We scope them together rather than selling them separately.
