For analysis and scenario work, yes. For recurring aggregation across years of daily records, no — that belongs in a database with BI on top. Most Houston clients we see have this split backwards, running heavy aggregation in Excel and scenario work nowhere.
Should we move off Excel entirely?
Almost never entirely. Excel remains the best tool for scenario work, ad-hoc analysis and anything a human needs to interrogate directly. The realistic outcome is BI for standardised recurring reporting and Excel for everything requiring judgement.
Can you handle daily drilling report data?
Yes. The usual work is building an import layer that copes with each operator's export format and produces one consistent dataset, then reporting on top of that. The import layer is where the actual difficulty lives.
