Models only one person can run
Rebuild the file so assumptions sit in one controlled place, calculations are traceable, and a second analyst can run close without a handover call.
United States · New York · New York City
Deal models, portfolio packs and month-end consolidations that have to survive review. Hire an Excel consultant for a review, a freelancer for a contained build, or a VBA developer to automate a process — all remote, all billed by the hour, and all handed over documented and unlocked.

ShaktiA remote team of Excel and spreadsheet specialists. You work directly with the person building your file, from the first question to the final handover. More about us.
The local picture
New York runs on models that other people read. A fund's quarterly pack, a landlord's rent roll, an agency's client profitability sheet — in each case the workbook leaves the person who built it and lands in front of someone who will question a number. That changes what "good" means. A file can be fast and still fail if the reviewer cannot trace an assumption back to its source, or if the analyst who wrote it is on holiday during close.
What we get hired for here
The most common request we get from New York teams is not "build me a dashboard." It is "this model works but I am the only person who understands it." Key-person risk in a spreadsheet is a real operational exposure, and it usually shows up the first time someone else has to run the close. We work on the structure underneath: separating hard-coded assumptions from calculations, putting checks where the reconciliation actually breaks, and documenting the update sequence so the file does not depend on one person's memory.
Rebuild the file so assumptions sit in one controlled place, calculations are traceable, and a second analyst can run close without a handover call.
Add balance checks and variance flags that surface at the top of the file, so a broken link is visible before the pack goes to the IC.
Replace manual copy-paste across funds, properties or business units with a structured consolidation that keeps a drillable audit trail.
Typical source data for New York City clients: NetSuite or Intacct exports, Yardi or MRI rent rolls, Salesforce pipeline pulls, custodian and administrator statements, and the inevitable manually-maintained assumptions tab.
An illustrative scenario
A composite example built to show method, not a specific client engagement. No client is identified and no outcome is guaranteed.
The starting point: eleven source workbooks, one per portfolio company, each with a slightly different tab layout and its own definition of adjusted EBITDA.
We standardise the input template first — not the output. One tab shape, locked headers, data validation on the fields that drive the roll-up.
A consolidation layer reads all eleven files, flags any that fail the shape check, and reports which ones are missing before anyone starts formatting.
The pack itself becomes a presentation layer over that model. Refresh takes about twenty minutes and the four-day assembly disappears.
Working together across time zones
Our team starts the day at 09:00 IST, which is 23:30 ET the previous evening. In practice you get overnight turnaround: send a workbook at 6pm ET and there is usually progress waiting by 8am.
For a first conversation, the most useful thing to send is the review deadline, who else edits the file, what has to reconcile to what, and the definitions that cannot change. You do not need a requirements document, and if the file is sensitive a screen recording works just as well.
The workbook, or a description of what is slow.
Rate, hours and timeline, usually within a day.
Unlocked files, documentation, recorded walkthrough.
Services
All ten service lines are available in New York City. These four come up most often in this market — hire a consultant, a freelancer or a full delivery team, whichever fits.

Meet the teamQuestions
Answers written for this city, including the ones that might cost us the job.
Ask us something elseNo, and we say so plainly rather than implying otherwise. We are a remote team and there is no New York office. For the work we do — model rebuilds, automation, dashboards — screen sharing and a shared file are genuinely sufficient, and it is why our rates are lower than a Manhattan consulting firm. If your project requires someone physically in the room, a local contractor is the better answer and we will tell you that.
Yes. We sign client NDAs as a matter of course and we can work on an anonymised or scrubbed copy if the data is sensitive. For a first conversation you often do not need to send anything — a screen recording of the problem or a description of the tab structure is usually enough for us to scope the work.
We keep assumptions in one place, avoid hard-coded numbers inside formulas, add reconciliation checks that fail loudly, and write a short update procedure that lives in the file. None of that is exotic — it is just discipline that gets skipped when a model grows under deadline pressure.
We bill by the hour, from $15, and give you an estimate of the hours before starting. A focused review of a single workbook is usually 4–8 hours, delivered as a prioritised findings list plus a recorded walkthrough. We stop and ask before exceeding an estimate, so the total stays predictable.
For most clients the gap is an advantage rather than a problem. You send work at the end of your day and review progress at the start of the next one. We hold live calls in your morning — 9am to noon ET is 6:30pm to 9:30pm IST, which we cover routinely.
By job title
The same people do all of this. We keep a separate page per specialism for New York City because the work each one generates here genuinely differs — and because the job title you search under changes what you find.
Local or remote
There are good reasons to hire someone in New York City, and we would rather set them out than pretend otherwise.
A local entity, local invoicing, local contract law. For some organisations — public sector especially — that is not negotiable, and no amount of rate advantage changes it.
If a file breaks at 10am and must work by 2pm, somebody in your time zone will usually beat somebody in ours. Our overnight turnaround is an advantage for planned work and a disadvantage for emergencies.
For a workshop, a training session, or a discovery process across several departments, physical presence genuinely helps. We work well over a call, but we will not pretend it is identical.
One local generalist covers whatever they happen to know. A small specialist team covers modelling, VBA, BI and Sheets properly. Which matters more depends entirely on what your file needs.
A local contractor in a major city typically charges several times a remote specialist's hourly rate for output a reviewer could not tell apart. That difference is the whole reason remote delivery exists.
At a consultancy the person who sells the work and the person who writes it are often different people. Here they are the same person, and you have their name.
Start with the problem
Send the workbook or describe the problem. An hours estimate back within a day, at no cost and no obligation.
